Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
At savesouthsidedomes.com, we believe in the power of community. Our fundraising initiatives are designed to bring people together to support essential repairs for the historic St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Our iconic domes are in disrepair, and we need to act before it's too late!
St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church has been a spiritual, cultural, and architectural gem for more than 130 years. The parish was formally organized around its own pastor in 1890. In 1891 the congregation purchased the property its church stands on to this day. The church at the corner of S. 7th and E. Carson was built in 1895 by Gottard Wyss. Known for its majestic domes, the church has become an essential part of Pittsburgh’s skyline and history, symbolizing the strength, endurance, and unity of the Ukrainian-American community. Art historian Frank Tokler has called St. John’s church building “a striking symbol of Pittsburgh’s Central and Eastern European communities…essential to the visual makeup” of the city’s South Side. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, St. John’s church building is likely the oldest surviving Ukrainian Catholic church building in North America.
